After the last year of introducing Sustainability into our core business, we are pleased to launch our Sustainability Statement, along with our 2022 Climate Clever Carbon Footprint Report.
We are excited to share where we currently stand in terms of our Carbon Footprint, and our long- term commitment to being a more Sustainable business and improving our environmental and social outcomes.
Why are we doing this?
We have long recognised the holistic connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have between Country, and their physical and spiritual health and well-being. As a business, we felt that it was important for us to contribute to reducing impacts on the environment and implementing other sustainability practices.
While we have always practiced informal sustainability initiatives, we have set targets in six key outcome areas to ensure that we hold ourselves accountable and have a clear means to measure our successes and improvements.
Our Sustainability Key Outcome Areas are:
- Carbon Neutral
- Healthy Country
- Reconciliation
- Wellbeing
- Leadership
- Collaboration
Putting our Plans into Practice
Late last year we hired our Sustainability champion Sarah Gautreyto write our sustainability plan and help us achieve our targets. Since she started in last September, we have already started on tracking some preliminary initiatives, including:
- Using the Climate Clever App to measure and track our yearly Carbon Emissions
- Commitment to 25% reduction in our Carbon Emissions for 2023
- Planning our new sustainable building and office premises
- Carbon Offsetting our air travel and paper supplies
- Greening our office and awareness
- Embedding Sustainability into our business operations
- Employing a dedicated Sustainability Manager
- Reinforcing our core values and being a ‘values-based’ business
- Strengthening our collaboration and partnerships with Aboriginal groups and communities
- Commitment to Reconciliation through our Reconciliation Action Plan
- Continuing to support the wellbeing of our staff and the local communities we work with; and
- Working with proposed new heritage legislation to protect and preserve cultural heritage in WA and Australia
