TR’s Carbon Footprint Report for 2024

We have just released our Carbon Footprint Report for 2024, which outlines our achievement of carbon neutrality in the year just gone. In fact, we’ve gone slightly beyond neutral, with a net footprint of -2 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), which means we have actually offset more carbon than we have created.

Our total emissions for 2024 were 337 tonnes of CO₂e, which we categorise into three “scopes”:

  1. Scope 1 (20.4%): These are emissions we directly produce, like from our company vehicles.
  2. Scope 2 (2.7%): This covers emissions from the electricity we use in our offices.
  3. Scope 3 (76.8%): The largest category, including indirect emissions from activities like business travel, waste, and our supply chain.

We’re working hard to reduce these emissions by 25% each year, aiming to maintain our carbon neutral status and ultimately achieve Net Zero by 2050.

This year, we undertook many actions that assisted us towards carbon neutrality, including installing timers on air-conditioning, implementing motion sensors on floodlights, and reducing excess indoor lighting. We’re also planning forward-looking initiatives such as purchasing solar panels, investigating solar battery storage, exploring electric vehicle options, and implementing staff commute alternatives.

Our carbon footprint was calculated using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, ensuring transparent environmental reporting. We aim to maintain high standards throughout our processes, building organisational capacity and increasing our environmental responsibility, while remaining focused on our mission to protect and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
