Yesterday a few members of the Terra Rosa team were privileged to be able to meet with Damien and Richard at Desert Feet Tour and the talented singer Kankawa Nagarra (Olive Knight). Desert Feet Tour is a West Australian music project, using the arts to create educational and musical opportunities in remote communities to encourage cultural awareness. They have recently begun their exciting 2015 journey working with Olive on her third studio album.
Olive is a Walmatjarri women from the small and remote community of Wangkatjungka, south of Fitzroy Crossing. Her earliest memories are traditional songs sung around the campfire and her recent album draws inspiration from hearing music made by an old tin match box when she was only 14. Olive is a dedicated and strong believer in Health and Healing through Music and has spent her life captivating and educating people through her language and voice. Her recent album sees the culmination of old Walmajarri hymns written in the 60’s performed with the simply powerful combination of Olive’s voice and a washboard! Olive is also collaborating with prominent West Australian blues and folk artists.
It was a pleasure to meet Olive, Damien and Richard and hear about their incredible community driven projects across WA. With many joint synergies and aspirations we hope to be able to collaborate and work with Olive and Desert Feet Tour this year.
Until then, we would like to share an event that can’t be missed! The inspiring Olive Knight will be launching her third album at Ellington Jazz Club on Wednesday 1st April!
Don’t miss this special night – a rare opportunity to support the only Walmatjarri Gospel Blues Singer in the world and her mission of Health and Healing through Music.
Please follow the link below for more details and don’t forget to share with your family and friends! We would love to be able to support Olive by having a full house for her performance!
