Terra Rosa on the Desert Feet Tour

Thursday 9 July

Literally kicked off today by playing a game of footy. Desert Feet and Terra Rosa (the Desert Rosas) vs Ngurra Kujungka. We lost on a ‘next goal wins’ technicality but had a great time and promised to return to challenge the reigning premiers next time. In other footy news the Jigalong Suns took out the flag with a great victory over the Irrungadji Dockers. And the day was capped off with the last Desert Feet Tour concert.

Tuesday 7 July

It has been very busy since arriving here in Nullagine. Footy has become serious today and the activities have all been packed. We conducted some songwriting workshops with Olive Knight and the kids in Martu language. If you look closely at the photos below you will see that the kid is playing drums in his footy boots. Straight from the footy field to the stage! That’s how they roll in Nullagine.

Wednesday 1 July

Today was the big end of term concert. During the day we ran music workshops with the kids and taught them how to play the song parts on electric guitar, keyboard, bass guitar and drums. They were fast learners and by the end of our rehearsal time, the kids were ready to perform their song. All of the community members came to watch the kids perform and they were amazing! We then showed the recorded version and film clip that we made with the kids and they loved it. The concert was a success and there are no doubt a few future rock stars in Yandeyarra. Finishing the mix today so we can leave a film clip and a CD with the community. Heading to Nullagine tomorrow for more adventures!

Tuesday 30 June 2015

Another fun day in Yandeyarra today. We recorded some more with the kids and did some singing workshops. The kids took us to the river which provided the inspiration for their song and we shot some video for a film clip. Then we helped to record a special song dedicated to a grandfather who passed away earlier this year. We are getting ready for the big concert tomorrow when some local bands will join the kids and the Desert Feet Tour band to put on a show for the community. There were so many smiling people today; it’s great to see music providing such a memorable and positive experience for these kids. They had a full day today with sport workshops provided by Bloodwood Tree Association, an end of term awards ceremony at school and music video making workshops.

 Monday 29 June 2015

We had a great day today conducting some songwriting workshops with primary and secondary students at Yandeyarra community school. We wrote and recorded a great song about life in Yandeyarra and all the things that the kids enjoy doing when they are not at school. The secondary students wrote the versus and the primary students wrote the chorus. Then we recorded the track and we will make a video for it tomorrow. We also were invited to attend an impromptu concert that a local band put on from their front porch. It was a beautiful sunny day here and many people passed by to see what all the music was about.
